My review: Reemarkit

Website/Service Review

reemarkit.com

Reemarkit advertises itself as a way to "Give your old stuff another chance - sell & buy easy  and free". Kind of like a small town eBay, or a large version of a yard sale. So, of course I signed up...'cause I have stuff...and I want more stuff. Yay for stuff!

Upon registration, which is super simple, I am given 100 "reemarks"...which is the currency of the site. Woo hoo!! I'm already making money (even if it's fake). Then I can either list items for sale, or browse items to buy ...all done using 'reemarks'. "Reemarks" can also be purchased -- 50 'reemarks' = $5, 100 for $10 and so on. There are also ways to get free 'reemarks' by sharing and inviting friends to the website, and such.

Ok so...I begin by browsing, because I haven't actually got pictures of anything taken and ready to sell. The set up is nice, the layout is clean and easy to understand. I browse for a bit and find a bottle of nail polish I like. I kinda have a thing for nail polish.

This specific brand is available at a certain drug store for about $2-3 a bottle, max price would be about $4. Here is the "listing":

(my own screenshot)

Here we see the bottle of nail polish for 100 "reemarks", I happen to have 100 "reemarks"...WOOT! Note: that it also says "power shipping", which means the buyer will pay shipping. Sure...makes since. So, I click on "BUY" to find out how much shipping will be. On the next screen I fill in my address and such.....

(my own screenshot)

$16.74 for shipping. I re-check all my stuff to make sure I didn't ask to ship with diamond bubble wrap, or next day air or something. These are the ONLY shipping options offered. So, $16.74......Yeah, you read that right. This includes the websites fee of $2.84 for some fee they call a "safe shopping fee".

(the Rock)

Say what???!!! I have been online a fairly long time, I have bought and sold for many, many years. And I am not exaggerating when I say -- That's a load of poo! A bottle of nail polish shipped for $16?!! Are you people insane?  Since I only have 100 "reemarks" I can not view shipping costs for any item which is listed for over 100. However, of the items I viewed --This kind of extreme shipping gouging is relatively common on this site. Aside from the odd coupon, most items offered for sale have an insane mark-up for shipping.

Little girls dress: UPS Ground      Delivered: 3 working days    Price: 16.74 USD

Childs DVD:  UPS Ground   Delivered: 4 working days  Price: 17.24 USD

"Topaz" and "Sterling" ring: UPS Ground   Delivered: 2 working days    Price 61.47 USD

This is how the sellers make a profit, since the "reemarks" are essentially worthless, they charge a large amount for shipping in order to get actual cash. Very disappointing.

Another problem is there is no ability/option to find out anything about the seller, other than the other items he/she sells. Most users have no history, as this site is still very new --yet there is not way to learn if they are even in the U.S. (as that would explain high shipping charges if UPS was not used).

In my opinion, this site needs work. Price gouging via shipping fees is ethically wrong, even if the website itself isn't doing it--they should have some control over the sellers (such as eBay does).

In the end -- the shipping prices are too much, and it's a bit too shady for me. I will not be doing any business there, no buying and no selling

Sorry- I had such high hopes, too.
